UN CONSULTATIVE STATUS
The United Nations partners with non-governmental organizations to boost their range of capacities to further the mission established in the UN charter. With this in mind, the Economic and Social Council was established in 1945 as one of the six main organs of the United Nations.
The ECOSOC is at the heart of the United Nations system which endeavors to advance the three dimensions of sustainable development – economic, social, and environmental. It is the central platform for fostering healthy debate and innovative thinking, forging consensus on ways forward, and coordinating efforts to achieve internationally agreed-upon goals. It is also responsible for the follow-up to major UN conferences and summits.
Building on its coordination role within the UN system, ECOSOC has become a productive gateway for UN partnership and participation with the rest of the world.
