I am often asked what peace is. It surprises me that people ask this question because it
seems the definition is self-evident. Yet in a world where conflict has been going on for centuries and where our news is almost exclusively about violence and aggression, I recognize the importance of a PeaceNow definition of peace.
Dr. Martin Luther King once famously said, “Peace is a word to describe movements, ideas, and practices for preventing war and building peace.” I feel this matches perfectly what PeaceNow is offering as a means for the co-creation of global peace.
The time has passed when we define peace solely as the end of all conflict. Peace is not just an end. Peace is the beginning and the vehicle for the continuous proactive development of our societies, our governments, our economies and ourselves to support the creation of shared interests and universally beneficial solutions. It is for this mission of peace that PeaceNow was created.
